Create your own gift boxes - using the paper you have on hand! This gift box is also part of the Wish Box tutorial.
What you need: Paper - designer or card stock. (Card stock is a little harder to work with, but will turn out nicely) Bone Folder
Step 1: Cut your paper to a perfect square. For the Wish Box, you'll want to cut 6" x 6" paper. It can be double sided if you want, but only one side will show. On the back (wrong) side, draw diagonal lines corner to corner to mark the center of your square. Note: If you are making a gift box with a lid you will need two squares of paper. The steps for the lid and the bottom of the box is the same, but you need to measure your lid at 1/4" larger than the bottom of the box. For example, your lid would be 6 1/4" x 6 1/4" and the bottom of the box would be 6" x 6" square. |

Step 2: Fold each corner into the center mark you made in step 1. Be sure to be as exact as possible.
Use your bone folder to make a nice crease.

Once all folds have been made, unfold for the next step.
Step 3: With one of the corners folded in, fold the side in, matching the edge of the paper with the line you drew from step 1. (I usually have to hold the previous fold in as I'm making this fold so it stays down nicely.) |

It's easier if you fold the opposite side and match the edges. Unfold again, and fold the other corners the same way. |

The result is a ton of diagonal creases on your paper.
(I drew dotted lines where you will leave the folds, and red solid lines where you will cut - hope that helps!) Step 4: Make 4 cuts on your paper as shown. |
Notice that I've made two "flaps" with the 4 cuts from step 4.
Step 5: Fold the corners into the center and fold the sides up. You will have extra parts that you will fold in to create a 3rd side.
Step 6: Put a dab of glue on the end of the "wing".
Fold it over to create the 3rd side. Since you have glue on it, it will stick nicely to the bottom of the box.
And now you have one side left!
Step 7: Put a dab of clue on the last "wing" and fold it over to the center to finish the last side of the box.
Ta da! If you are making this box for the Wish Box, you will need 4 of these made out of 6" x 6" paper and one made from 6 3/4" x 6 3/4" paper. If you are making this box as part of a gift box with a lid, create another box just 1/4" smaller (for the bottom) or 1/4" larger (for the top.) |
Here's finished gift box! It measures approximately 2" x 2" x 1 1/4" high. |
